11th December: Pete pitch prep

Tonight, i shot some pieces for my presentation pitch for tomorrow.
i decided to make a short video lasting around 1 minute to add into my power point. i made a top for the video, i thought this would be a good idea for my pitch a it would create some visual impact to my idea and to make it more stable and interesting.
I basically self directed a simple single camera piece in front of a table and chair with my sewing machine on it and made a staples top.
i felt this went very well as i was able to shoot and edit the piece all in one night. a few alterations could have been made to the quality but as it was for the pitch i didn't mind about this.

29th November: Colin's class

In today's lesson, we was preparing ourselves for Sunday's actual futsal game.
we set up a simple 3 way multi cam in the studio and i was presenting the show.
the rehearsal went well but a couple of people weren't bothering to be part of the rehearsal in front of the camera for the rehearsal. also as i wasn't sure what to say or how the show would be laid out, i got stuck on what to say a couple of times. Otherwise the rehearsal went well enough for the director to understand the difficulties and learn from them for Sunday.

12th December: pitch for pete

Today i had my pitch at 10:10am, i felt it went really smoothly overall.
as soon as i got in the room, i was informed that i had 15 minutes to prepare myself for the pitch. i printed my prompt sheet out and connect my laptop to the viewing board.  i had 5 minutes to pitch my idea, i went through the presentation, i was then told i had 1 minute 15 seconds to finish up of which then i got through the end of my pitch fluently as i knew i wanted to show the video that i had made.
i finished talking and pete said it was very good and that i covered the brief.  I then showed my video of which he was pleased with but then just said that when i come to film, to make sure that the sound is fluent and that the white balance is set properly and that i should have someone to aid me to edit my documentary.

Futsal day: Sunday, 2nd November

Today was the day of the shooting for the futsal show.
i turned up for half past 2 and we all stayed there until half 6/7 o'clock.
my role for the day was to be a runner. for my role as a runner, i was making sure that the camera and tripod (camera 2) was safe and that the football didn't hit or knock it over.
I also helped pass messages on from the presenter and camera 3 to Danny (the director and helped with taping the wires down to the floor to make sure that no one would trip over them.
The things that i could have done to make my position stronger would have been to go to each camera man instead of just 2 and 3 to make sure that they were ok also to go to danny and ask if he needed me more anything else. apart from that, i think my role as a runner, i couldn't do much as there were a few other runners doing the same as me and everything was pretty much completed and done.
My thoughts of the day would be that it went pretty smoothly from the turnover from presenter to commentator, however better communication to the director could have been made from the presenter.

Pete: draft pitch and documentary idea

For today's lesson, we had to pitch our idea to the tutor and class for our documentary, Pete wasn't here today so we had to pitch to Ricardo.
i didn't have a powerpoint so i pitched my idea from my proposal straight to the class.
Ricardo liked the idea and suggested to me a program that is already made about a girl who makes her own clothes, so i could get some ideas from that show for my own to see what works for it.Jack also suggested that i could add something about charity shops, that people go in and buy old clothes to re-make or customise.
i am going to have my one to one session next week with Ricardo about my documentary die as he said he is going to give me some more ideas.

Pete: short film ideas

Wednesday 31st October
In today' lesson, Pete showed us some short documentary films that have been made and posted on vimeo.
we watched them all and talked about them, about the idea and the creation.
for the second half of the lesson, we had to find a short documentary off the internet and make a treatment for it, i chose to make a treatment for the window design maker. i thought it had good content to write about and ould be fairly easy. my proposal consists of shots that were used and description and idea of the whole film.
We then had to read them out to the whole class and in front of Pete for feedback. Pete was happy with my proposal and said i wrote it well.
This proposal will help me to do one for my short documentary idea.

Futsal practice at the velodrome centre

Tuesday, 13th November:
Today, i went down to the velodrome centre (national cycling centre) where we was having a practice for the futsal show. It was Danny Jack's final rehearsal before he directs one of the final shows.
As there wasn't many people there, we just did a rehearsal as normal as matey and luke was playing football. Danny was directing and i had a go at commentating. i felt that this was rather good fun as i tried my best to keep up to what was happening.
i also had a go with the sound control which i felt was easy as i have done this before. for example, when Josh (the presenter) started to talk, i would slide the sound control switch up to a reasonable setting to hear his voice, then back down and use the other switch to hear my voice for when i commentated.
The practice went well but then there was some complications in the group when two of the students had an argument.

18th oct: colin's class

Today i pitched my idea to Colin for the Futsal show. i felt that i delivered my idea well however i don't think i fully understood what the 30 minutes of the show wold exactly be about as Colin's feedback stated this. He was pleased that i made a Budget and delivered my whole idea however i didn't fully think about the pre-production part of the budget. Also the 30 minute didn't just have to be v.t, it could been live parts too.
Things i might have to change: some budget parts
some parts of the 30 min footage

This afternoon everyone grouped together to make the pre-production work for the practice session on Sunday 28th.
I am working on an idea for a V.T within the program.

V.T Idea

History of Futsal.
some footage of the internet about when futsal first started- not allowed so maybe make some graphics or drawings for the v.t to show how it used to be and then some footage that i will be filming on tuesday about how futsal is now.
some questions asked to one of the team members via box pop.

17th Oct: Peter, short doc

The task for today was to make a short documentary or film on a theme.
i came in late so i joined Imogen and Ezra, we each took turns into making our short film. My theme idea was Tall. i chose different shots and images for example a tall tree (facing camera up) to capture an video shot.
i managed to capture a few shots and then edit them into an interesting sequence with music.
We then showed them to the rest of the class.
Peter's feedback was positive. He said that i managed to complete the task even though i came in late and therefore produced a positive piece.

Sam: research on student night life for V.T

Students:
Number of students in City aged 18 and over:
Over 85,000
Manchester has four Universities, Manchester, UMIST, Manchester Met and Salford.
There are also another 14 Universities and higher education institutions in surrounding areas, making the total population of almost 350,000 students within an hour's drive time of Manchester.

Student population: 50,000

Manchester’s strong music history has led to a great Manchester nightlife along with some great student nights in Manchester.
There is a wide selection of music genres in Manchester’s nightclubs. Here is the ultimate guide to the best student (and student friendly) clubs in Manchester.
5th Avenue is a student favourite. There is a cheap and cheerful feel about the club and drinks are cheap. It is best to get to 5th Avenue early to avoid long queues. Wednesday night is a hot pick and you will usually find both floors of the club overspilling with students. The music takes a mainstream indie feel with dance tracks added in for extra spice.

Tue 8th... Pete: first act

Today, the acts from lever street came down and we did a practice rehearsal. we made an interview room behind one of the walls and then had all the main studio set up with 3 cameras, one on a dolly. we made the lighting look creative to set the atmosphere. Because Erin wasn't here, i took over to be the interviewer. i was also the floor manager for the interview room where i had to listen out for when the act has finished in the main studio and make sure they are in the interview room in good time  counting down for the start of the interview.
